A Living Tribute to Puget Sound: The 2201 Westlake Lobby Living Wall

Inspired by the sweeping geography of Puget Sound and the natural beauty of the Seattle region, the living wall at 2201 Westlake transforms the lobby into an immersive botanical retreat.  A flowing river of satin pothos and Austral gem ferns winds through the composition, echoing the dynamic movement of the sound itself. Native Adiantum capillus-veneris ferns emerge like verdant islands, while the striking pinkish-red foliage of Ficus decora ‘Ruby’ seamlessly bridges the corner where the two walls meet, creating a sense of organic continuity. Soft yet radiant highlights of Philodendron ‘Lemon Cordatum’ add warmth and vibrancy, brightening the tucked-away lobby space.

Beyond its visual appeal, this living wall provides a range of benefits, improving air quality by naturally filtering toxins and increasing humidity. It also enhances acoustics by absorbing sound, creating a quieter and more serene environment. The lush greenery helps regulate indoor temperature, reducing energy costs, while also promoting a sense of well-being, reducing stress, and fostering a connection to nature. Designed as both a visual and sensory retreat, this installation invites pedestrians in from the city streets, offering a refreshing pause—a breath of fresh air in the heart of downtown Seattle.
