For Intel’s Bay Area headquarters in Santa Clara, Habitat Horticulture worked closely with Gensler and landscape architect RHAA to to come up with a design that would work perfectly greeting people as they walk into the main entrance of the Robert N. Noyce building. The result is a simple strip of plants that provides a warm, inviting backdrop for the bold headline “EXPERIENCE” – a sign that lights up in the evening. Part of a larger renovation of the building, which houses the Intel Museum, the wall sets the tone for visitors heading in to learn about Intel’s history developing and pushing the boundaries of semiconductor technology over the years.
Habitat Horticulture decided to use a number of blue-shaded plants for the wall, to tie into the signature Intel blue. These included Senecio serpens and Hedera helix, which bring a pleasing textural variation to play off the simple, white block letters in front. On this otherwise austere-looking building, the wall helps portray the image of a forward-thinking company; in touch with its roots but pushing ever ahead.
