UCB Tropical House, The Lair, and Mission Rock Meadowall™

UCB Tropical House

Closed for renovations since 2020, the Virginia Haldan Tropical House at UC Botanical Garden reopened in September. The space—re-envisioned by renowned landscape architect Ron Lutsko—features 250 tropical plants, a larger pond, and a two-sided living wall. This installation was a unique chance for us to use tropical plants that wouldn’t thrive on our other walls. Many of the species on the wall were donated from UC Botanical Garden!

This installation was a unique chance for us to use tropical plants that wouldn’t thrive on our other walls.

Mickey, our Design Director, talks through the project in a video series linked below:

The Lair

Meet The Lair, Berkeley’s newest eight-story mixed use project designed by Johnson Lyman Architects. Our lush living wall welcomes residents and guests with species like Philodendron ‘Xanadu’, Plectranthus ciliatus 'Troy’s Gold’, and Portulacaria afra 'Minima' on the exterior wall. On the indoor portion of the installation, the palette expands to include tropical species. Dracaena marginata'Colorama' and Neoregelia 'Petra' provide dramatic pops of color.

Our install team filled the exterior wall with over 1,200 plants surrounding the building’s signage. Click below to watch the time-lapse of the install:

Mission Rock Meadowall™

Meadowall™ has come to Mission Rock! We’re bringing the beauty and benefits of native grasses, flowers, and pollinators to a walkway in San Francisco’s new waterfront neighborhood.

This new system employs pre-seeded panels with our proprietary Growtex® growing medium, allowing for a quick and easy install process, with minimal maintenance.

Since Meadowall™ showcases native wildflowers and grasses, the palette is constantly shifting with the seasons. Come find this wall—just across McCovey Cove from Oracle Park—to see for yourself what’s in bloom!
